Introducing the use of the metaphor and the creative process when words are inadequate
An experiential workshop, led by Micky Mendelson, using creative materials to access ‘The Unspeakable’ within the therapeutic relationship. The workshop will be beneficial for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists and those working in the mental health professions wanting to explore different ways to reach clients. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificates will be issued on the day.
Micky initially trained as a primary school teacher before going on to complete qualifications in counselling, art therapy and supervision. She brings with her over 30 years experience having worked in drug and alcohol agencies, the NHS, schools and colleges as well as a GP surgery, a women’s centre and a cancer support organisation. She has run and developed a number of workshops as well as lecturing in counselling at certificate, diploma and foundation degree levels. Micky is a member of the
“Talking Matters” Working Group. For further information please visit her website

Since our last conference in October 2010 the Talking Matters Working Group has continued to meet regularly to plan and organise another conference this year. However, since Hertfordshire University withdrew our funding last year, and all the remaining resources subsidised the 2010 conference, we are unable to sustain an event this year under the current economic climate.
It is, therefore, with much regret, and after much deliberation, that the Talking Matters Working Group have come to the decision to postpone this year’s annual conference.
Nevertheless, we are continuing to meet monthly to explore and develop possibilities for Talking Matters to carry on supporting those working in the mental health services in Hertfordshire. The remit of the group has always been to provide training and networking opportunities particularly for the counselling voluntary sector which is suffering through these very difficult financial restrictions. After fifteen years of networking, collegial support and the annual conference, we are determined not to give up! We know we need to adapt to the present circumstances and search other avenues further.
We have, therefore, put together a questionnaire below exploring your thoughts about the ideas we have been considering. The main aim, at this point, is to generate approximately £500 to cover mailing, printing, PO Box number and postage in order to set up the next conference or equivalent. Please fill it in on line or mail it back to us. This will be much appreciated.
In addition, we are looking for new people to join our Talking Matters Working Group – which is entirely voluntary – so that we can expand our thinking and resourcefulness. Hopefully, in this way, we can assemble a conference in 2012 and continue to contribute to the well being of those needing the mental health services in the Hertfordshire area. We are looking for registered counsellors and/ or psychotherapists (or currently working towards accreditation/ registration) who can offer an hour a month (lunch time on the second Thursday), who will actively contribute as a group member, is committed to the ethos of Talking Matters, can come up with ideas and has energy and a good sense of humour! In return Talking Matters offers opportunities to explore Continuing Professional Development.
Thank you for your support and continuing commitment.
With kind regards,
